Dr. Samvel Grigoryan will explore the global university of two 13th- and 14th-century authors, the Venetian merchant Marco Polo and the Cilician-Armenian historian Hetum. Through their works, the speaker will examine the entanglements among the main actors of that period in Europe, Africa, and the Mongol Empire, with a particular focus on Cilician Armenia and the Armenian Highland. The lecture will also highlight the engagement of Armenians in global politics, trade, diplomacy, and cultural interchange.
