I am delighted to invite you to my Recital ARMENIAN CROSSROADS that will take place in Steinway Piano Gallery Oslo, on upcoming Tuesday, 21st of June, at 18.00.
I will perform Komitas' complete Armenian Folk Dances Yot Par and the monumental and archaic Msho Shoror, all these dance melodies collected and transcribed by the composer from different regions of Armenia, his inspiration rooted and ears tuned into our folk instruments' sound, style, and aesthetics that he carefully tried to translate into the piano.
I included in the program also selected Armenian Peasant Songs of Komitas in arrangement for solo piano by Villy Sargsyan. The imitation of Armenian folk instruments and folk dance elements firmly connect Komitas and Khachaturian's music, and the Poem and Toccata of Khachaturian deepen and brighten these colorful contrasts of their musical language and expression, opening enormous space to explore within pianism and interpretation.
The Two Ghazals and Evening Bell from Visionary Landscapes of Alan Hovhaness into my Armenian Crossroads evokes a mystical aspect in music, while at the same time highlighting each of these three composers' musical worlds and soundscapes with new light. I am looking forward to the concert and playing for you the music of Komitas, Khachaturian, and Hovhaness.
