A Musical Celebration of Gomidas at 150
Grammy®-nominated and world-renowned soprano Isabel Bayrakdarian with guest musicians from UCSB Department of Music, Los Angeles and Fresno, with Dr. Anna Hamre conducting the Fresno Coro Vox Aeterna.
Featuring works by Armenian composer, ethnomusicologist, researcher, and conductor Կոմիտաս Վարդապետ (Komitas - Gomidas Vartabed) (1869–1935).
In recognition of the UNESCO-celebrated 150th anniversary of the birth of Gomidas Vartabed (1869–1935), the program will be an all-encompassing celebration of the composer’s diverse works, and will feature new arrangements including his sacred and secular pieces for choir and solo voice, a collection of children’s songs and prayers, and arrangements of folk songs arranged for voice and string quartet. The mission in presenting this concert will be to celebrate the universality of Gomidas’s music and its ability to transcend and elevate the soul, inspire the mind, and nurture the heart.
