Glendale Library, Arts & Culture invites the public to join in celebration of Armenian culture, history, and heritage during a joyous community event highlighting the culinary diaspora of Armenia on Saturday, April 11 from 10:00 AM – 1:00 PM at Central Library.
Armat, the Library’s annual celebration of Armenian culture, will focus on the variety of foods and flavors of the diaspora through samplings from local Glendale restaurants. Each restaurant will be offering a tasting of some of their specialties while supplies last.
Restaurants featured include:
Carousel Restaurant
Monta Factory
Zhengyalov Hatz
The event begins at 10:00 AM with wristband distribution. Tastings at 10:30 AM along with a brief conversation with staff from Zhengyalov Hatz, Carousel Restaurant, and Monta Factory about each restaurant’s origins and cuisine.
In addition to the restaurant tastings, there will be cooking demonstrations throughout the event in the Teen Space, and at 10:30 AM families can enjoy an Eastern Armenian Storytime in Children’s Space.
Abril Bookstore will also be onsite selling Armenian cookbooks.
Armat is the word for “root” in Armenian language. Armat represents the shared roots of Armenian Heritage in Glendale. GLAC chose the pomegranate tree graphic to honor our connectedness with branches representing the people of the Armenian Diaspora in our community, growing together from the shared roots.
Glendale Library, Arts & Culture’s Armenian History Month is part of our Be the Change Series, the library’s promise to build a collective understanding of systemic racism, elevate the voices and stories of Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC), and inspire our community to be the change through lectures, exhibits, and programming. Be the Change is sponsored by the Arts & Culture Commission with funding from the Urban Art Fund.
