Porter Square Books is excited to welcome writer Nancy Kricorian to celebrate the release of her new novel, THE BURNING HEART OF THE WORLD, about Armenians of Beirut before, during, and after the Lebanese Civil War. Harvard Preceptor Lisa Gulesserian will join Kricorian in conversation.

Nancy Kricorian, who was born and raised in the Armenian community of Watertown, Massachusetts, is the author of four novels about post-genocide Armenian diaspora experience, including ZABELLE, which was translated into seven languages, was adapted as a play, and has been continuously in print since 1998. She has been the recipient of a New York Foundation for the Arts Fellowship, a Gold Medal from the Writers Union of Armenia, and the Anahid Literary Award. She lives in New York City.

Dr. Lisa Gulesserian is Preceptor on Armenian at Harvard University, where she teaches three levels of Western Armenian. At Harvard and elsewhere, she has taught courses on memory, traumatic pasts, ghosts, female revolutionaries, and contemporary Armenian film and literature. She is the editor along with the editorial team at AIWA Press of the English translation of Srpuhi Dussap’s nineteenth-century feminist novel Mayda: Echoes of Protest, published in 2020.
