Panel Discussion & Special Performance: “I Am a Woman”

Join us at the Armenian Arts Center for an important evening dedicated to raising awareness, fostering dialogue, and strengthening our community’s response to domestic violence.

Organized and moderated by Lilit Shakaryan, researcher and family life educator, this panel discussion will bring together law enforcement representatives, legal professionals, domestic violence service providers, and community advocates to address the realities of domestic violence and the resources available to individuals and families in need.

The discussion will also highlight findings from a survey of Armenian community members, exploring gaps in awareness, perceptions, and knowledge of available support services. Panelists will discuss the different forms domestic violence can take, including those that may be less visible, and explain how survivors and families can seek assistance.

Featured Panelists:

Lilit Shakaryan – Moderator, Researcher & Family Life Educator, MSW/PhD USC

Lieutenant Ernesto Caxiola – Glendale Police Department

Debra Suh – Chief Executive Officer, YWCA Glendale and Pasadena

Mariya Melkonyan – Criminal Defense Attorney

Alina Krikorian, MA, LMFT – Armenian Relief Society's Child, Family & Youth & Guidance Center Representative

Maya Tokhalyan – Admin of Armenian Woman Power FB Group

The evening will also feature a special performance of “I Am a Woman” (Ես կին եմ), a drama featuring Ani Gevorgyan, Mariana Yeghiazaryan, and Anna Gevorgyan, directed by Suren Shahverdyan.

Presented in partnership with the Glendale Police Department, with research conducted on the Armenian WomenPower community.
