🌙 One of Perla Kantarjian's poems is archived on the Moon, sent up as part of the Lunar Codex. That's not even the most striking line on her CV. Lebanese-Armenian, raised speaking Armenian and Arabic and writing in her third language, English, she's been racking up numerous prizes even before her debut collection was out.

Her debut, You Must Become Field (Bad Betty Press), is out on 24 September in the UK, moving from the 1915 arrest of Armenian intellectuals in Constantinople to a 2025 Beirut club bathroom, eyeliner fixed between airstrikes.

"I come from an ancestral lineage that was already once made homeless by history," Kantarjian says, "and I write from a country where I now feel that old ground shifting again, differently, closer... "

🎧 Joining her is Olivia Melkonian, audio producer, sound artist/archivist and founder of Analog Armenia, an open-access archive dedicated to preserving Armenian cassette culture — endangered dialects, folk songs, revolutionary radio broadcasts and religious masses. Through her own fragmented Lebanese-Armenian heritage, Melkonian traces the social, cultural and historical narratives held inside these recordings.

Two archivists, different mediums — one in language, one in tape. Expect poetry and music alongside the conversation, plus a chance to buy your own copy of You Must Become Field, hot off the press.

🎶 ABOUT MIXTAPE

MIXTAPE is a series of events assembled by AAFL to give a platform to new voices in the arts and beyond — bringing together poetry, literature, music, performance, visual art, and creating space for artists and audiences to encounter one another.

🤝 The event is supported by Bad Betty Press, and the International Armenian Literary Alliance.
