Son of refugees who fled the Armenian Genocide, a small, poor boy with a veiled voice — people said he had nothing to succeed. Through hard work and extraordinary will, Charles Aznavour became a staple of crooner style and a symbol of both French and Armenian cultures. With nearly 1,200 songs performed worldwide, he inspired generations, and the film, blessed and consulted by the late Charles Aznavour himself, celebrates his exceptional journey, focusing on the early years of his career and the family that shaped him.
With occasional on-screen presence of his contemporaries like Edith Piaf and François Truffaut (he starred in Truffaut’s Tirez sur le pianiste, 1960), Monsieur Aznavour is an exemplary biopic that is larger than the story it tells.
