Syrian clarinetist Kinan Azmeh, his ensemble Hewar, and the Armenian Gurdjieff Ensemble led by Levon Eskenian shine a musical spotlight on the cultural history of their two countries and their century-old relationship. In addition to two new works commissioned specifically for this collaboration Issam Rafea (commissioned by Elbphilharmonie, Holland Festival, Morgenland Festival Osnabrück)
Tigran Mansurian (commissioned by Elbphilharmonie, Holland Festival, Morgenland Festival) , the program will include Armenian sacred and secular music, compositions by the members of Hewar, as well as traditional music and improvisation. The concert explores the interaction between two different cultures that live in close physical association and is both a tribute to the people of Syria and a wish for sustained peace.
