AGBU London is pleased to present a special screening of a powerful documentary dedicated to Missak and Mélinée Manouchian, two extraordinary figures of the French Resistance and survivors of the Armenian Genocide.
Directed by their great-niece Katia Guiragossian, this 52-minute film is both a historical journey and an intimate family pilgrimage. Through personal archives, rare testimonies, and Katia’s own narration, the documentary retraces the intertwined lives of a couple in a story of love and struggle, shaped by political commitment and an unwavering fight for freedom.
Far from focusing solely on wartime heroism, the film reveals a profound love story and a lifelong struggle for humanist ideals, carried out far from their homeland, yet deeply rooted in memory, resistance, and dignity.
Missak Manouchian, executed with his comrades at Mont Valérien in February 21st, 1944, has since become a symbol of the vital role played by foreign resistance fighters in France. In February 2024, Missak and Mélinée Manouchian were inducted into the Panthéon, marking a historic moment of national recognition.
The screening will be followed by a live Q&A with Katia Guiragossian, who will reflect on:
- Her personal connection to the story
- The process of uncovering and sharing family archives
- Memory, transmission, and resistance
- The contemporary relevance of the Manouchians’ legacy
