The Armenian Missionary Association of Canada (AMAC) is pleased to invite Montrealers and Torontonians to an inspiring and enlightening visual pilgrimage through the ancient monasteries of Armenia, presented by internationally recognized American-Armenian architect Ronald Arthur Altoon, FAIA, LEED AP — former President of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and author of seven acclaimed books on design.
This captivating presentation is the result of Mr. Altoon’s extensive research on 41 ancient Armenian monasteries, dating back to the 5th, 7th, 11th, 13th, and 14th centuries — many of which predate Europe’s most iconic cathedrals. His work is based on 18 research trips to Armenia and Artsakh, during which he studied and photographed these remarkable sacred sites.
While Armenia is well known as the first nation to adopt Christianity as a state religion, it is less widely known that it may also be the cradle of global church architecture. Mr. Altoon’s lecture will explore this powerful legacy and showcase the spiritual and architectural brilliance of Armenia’s ancient monasteries.
Guests will have the opportunity to meet and converse with Mr. Altoon over light refreshments following the presentation.
