London Protest

Peace for Artsakh and Armenia
10 oct. 2020   11:00 AM
Downing Street
SW1A 2 London
London - United Kingdom

Join the peaceful protest on Saturday at 11am to 1 pm, in front of 10 Downing Street, London. Raising awareness of the ongoing war in Artsakh. The protest will be socially distanced and face masks are mandatory, we will have police presence to see to the smooth runing of the protest, which we appreciate.

Brief history of Artsakh

The Republic of Artsakh (or the Republic of Nagorno-Karabakh) is predominantly populated by ethnic Armenians. Artsakh was historically part of Armenia for thousands of years, however, during the Soviet Union it was wrongfully separated from Armenia and left on the territory of Azerbaijan. After the Soviet Union, the ethnic Armenians in Artsakh wished to lawfully separate from Azerbaijan. This led to the Nagorno-Karabakh War (1991-1994) which ended with ceasefire but the situation on the borders remained tense.

Why are we protesting?

On the 27th of September 2020, the armed forces of Azerbaijan once again attacked Artsakh and they have been shelling cities, villages and civilian objects ever since. Turkey, a powerful NATO ally, has been recruiting terrorist groups from Syria who are sent to fight on behalf of Azerbaijan. On top of this, Azerbaijan has been using internationally banned weapons to attack the civilians: "The use of cluster bombs in any circumstances is banned under international humanitarian law, so their use to attack civilian areas is particularly dangerous and will only lead to further deaths and injuries,” said Denis Krivosheev, Amnesty International’s acting Head of Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

We demand a full unbiased media coverage of the situation. We also demand the UK and the rest of the world to act immediately and to ignore the Western self-interest due to the profitable interest in the status of Turkey and Azerbaijan.
