Armenian-Canadian piano virtuoso Anya Alexeyev joins Sinfonia Toronto in the orchestral version of a towering Romantic-era work, César Franck's Piano Quintet, a work that thrills from its passionate opening to its fiery finale. A graduate of both Moscow's Tchaikovsky Conservatory and London's Royal College of Music, Anya has performed in many countries across Europe (Britain,France, Austria, Belgium, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Russia, Finland, Ireland,Greece, Germany, and Macedonia), and in the US, Canada, Mexico,
Argentina, Malaysia, and South Africa.
Italian guest conductor Giovanni Pompeo will make his Canadian début, also leading the orchestra in a second Romantic masterpiece, the four brilliant movements of Tchaikovsky's famous Serenade. Maestro Pompeo has conducted throughout Italy, in Egypt, Romania, Bulgaria, Serbia and Spain.
The concert will take place in the Jane Mallett Theatre at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts on Front Street, just two blocks from Union Station. This program's lush melodies are a perfect way to warm hearts and recover from our harsh winter.
