Barletta, April 25, 2026 – The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Armenia in Bari officially announces its participation in the unveiling ceremony of the bust dedicated to Senator Prof. Filomeno Biagio Tatò. The event will take place on Saturday, April 25, 2026, at 6:30 PM, at the Municipal Police Headquarters in Barletta (Via Zanardelli 3), in the presence of Mayor Cosimo Damiano Cannito, local civil and institutional authorities, and the Honorary Consul of the Republic of Armenia in Puglia.

This occasion holds profound symbolic weight: April 25th immediately follows the Armenian Genocide Remembrance Day. According to Honorary Consul Dario Rupen Timurian, it is no mere coincidence that this unveiling—an act inherently designed to defy oblivion—occurs in the wake of such an enduring anniversary. Both April 24 (Armenian Genocide Remembrance) and April 25 (Italy’s Liberation Day) speak, through different yet converging historical lenses, of peoples who have transformed suffering into collective memory, restored dignity, and a civic legacy passed down through generations.

Beyond the symbolic link, there is a deeply personal and biographical connection. Senator Tatò was firmly rooted in the academic and civic life of Bari, where he served as a university professor and founded centers of excellence in the field of rehabilitation. Throughout his life, he nurtured a close relationship with members of Bari’s Armenian community—the heirs of the extraordinary diaspora that gathered around the Nor Arax district and the intellectual figure of Hrand Nazariantz.

Senator Tatò recognized this community as a vibrant and precious thread in the social fabric of Puglia: a recognition that this Consulate continues to honor today.

A Senator of the Republic during the 14th Legislature (2001–2006), Puglia Regional Councilor, and Associate Professor of Orthopedics and Traumatology at the University of Bari, Senator Tatò was also a healthcare entrepreneur and a key architect in the establishment of the BAT Province.

Distinguished as a Meritorious Citizen of Barletta and a long-standing advocate for the right to care for the most vulnerable, his life remains a luminous example of integrity, professional expertise, and unconditional dedication to the public good.

The Honorary Consulate of the Republic of Armenia in Bari joins the City of Barletta with deep gratitude in this profound act of remembrance and recognition.
